Most car owners are not aware of the fact that they could actually buy car repair manuals and OEM factory service manuals that are specific to their car’s specific make and model. There are numerous reasons as to why a car owner should own an OEM service manual which are also sometimes referred to as either a car factory service manual or a car repair manual which are generally only kept by the car dealerships.
The reasons as to why a car owner or even a car workshop owner or independent mechanic would benefit from an OEM car service manual is extensive as every bit of information about the mechanics, electronics, electrical, engine dynamics and information about each and every component of the car can be found in these manuals. Most if these manuals generally come complete with diagrams where necessary and step by step instructions on how to fix them, fine tune and calibrate the car from every possible aspect there is.
Most people, car owners specifically would be thinking that they could possibly buy direct from the manufacturer of their car and although this true that they do have these manuals, they are not for sale and generally are for the sole use of dealerships and service centres. Even with persistence, obtaining these factory service manuals from manufacturers can really be a hassle and as an alternative.
Some automobile owners may opt for ebay which is not advisable due to the potential of receiving an incomplete manual (snipped manuals) or even a manual that is not specific to the car altogether. OEM car service manuals from ebay have always been questionable at best. Some of these manuals may only contain scans of paper whilst others seem to be “cracked” PDF versions that are blurry, small or incomplete.
However, it is good for car owners to be aware of the fact that certain automobile types offer more options than other models, for example, owners of Volkswagen cars will be able to obtain the car factory service OEM manuals from the publisher “Bently” directly as this is the same company that actually publish these manuals. As for alternative sites, it is important to choose a good site as even mechanics have a hard time getting their hand on these manuals at times as they require a “license” that require an annual payment.
In order to avoid all of this, a little bit of due diligence could save car owners, car workshop owners and even independent mechanics a lot of problems down the road. Look for reputable sites that offer OEM service manuals and check reviews from previous customers. This would significantly increase the possibility of getting a good and complete manual.
Another method towards ensuring that the manual is of good quality is to check the size of the file, the bigger the better is the general rule of the thumb. Most reliable sources or websites even offer refunds and this would be a good indicator that the website is trustable.
